Pakistan: Actor, producer, activist Hamza Ali Abbasi all set to host TV show?

His last hosting stint landed him in hot water. Hamza was barred by PEMRA from hosting his Ramzan transmission after he broached the sensitive subjects of the persecution of the Ahmadi community and blasphemy laws in Pakistan.

One wonders if he is given his own show, will it be just as controversial if not more.

Looks like Hamza Ali Abbasi takes his duty very seriously. Being one of the most vocal actors in showbiz, he is all set to host a TV show with a huge fan following.

In the latest video posted on his Facebook, he says, “It is time to get rid of the notion that being political or talking about politics is taboo if you are not a politician… Being political is not a profession, not a career… it’s a duty, a necessity.”

“It is time to get rid of the notion that being political or talking about politics is Taboo if you are not a politician. Be politically aware, our destiny depends on it. Being political is not a profession, not a career… its a duty, a necessity!” – Hamza Abbasi, Facebook

His last hosting stint, however, landed him in hot water. Hamza was barred by PEMRA from hosting his Ramzan transmission with Ayesha Khan on Aaj TV, Ramazan Hamara Emaan after he broached the sensitive subjects of the persecution of the Ahmadi community and blasphemy laws in Pakistan.

But Hamza stuck to his guns, insisting that these topics should not be taboo.

Following the Kashmir siege, the Pyarey Afzal actor spoke up on Facebook against the killing of Hizbul Mujahideen separatist commander Burhan Wani by government forces in IHK and his account was subsequently suspended on the social networking site.

In an earlier run-in with Facebook, Hamza’s post about the Charlie Hebdo attack had also been removed.

One wonders if he is given his own show, will it be just as controversial if not more. What we can say for now is that Hamza won’t shy away from saying what he thinks is right.
