Short Story Writing Contest

 

We invite you to participate in a short story writing contest!

Winner’s work will be published in the U.S. Mission magazine Khabr-o-Nazr

 

The theme is “home.”  You decide what this means to you, but we are looking for entries that evoke a sense of place, culture and perspective; and draw on your own experiences of your city, your home, your communities.

 

 

Rules and Regulations:

 

  • Submissions must be an original work of fiction. In addition to creativity and skill, they will also be judged by how well they embody the theme.
  • Submissions must be in English and cannot exceed 2000 words.
  • Participants must be aged 14-18 and currently enrolled in secondary school in Pakistan. You will be requested to send a copy of your school ID or B form to verify your enrollment.
  • Your story cannot already have been published elsewhere.
  • One story per participant.
  • Competition closes July 4th. Entries submitted after this date will not be considered.
  • We want to see your writing and your perspectives, and will be checking for plagiarism which is grounds for disqualification. This includes, but is not limited to:
    • Copying another’s work
    • Taking an original idea and claiming it as your own
    • Quoting specific phrases without attribution
    • Translating from an original work and claiming it as your own
    • Making slight changes to an original work so that you are paraphrasing while maintaining the basic structure of the original
