Ahmadiyya Muslim Lawyers Assoc. Issues “What You Need to Know” Travel Advisory on Trump’s Muslim Ban

Anyone travelling to the U.S. should NOT sign a I-407 form.

Ahmadiyya Muslim Lawyers Association of the United States of America (AMLA-USA) has issued an urgent advisory for the traveling public, especially addressing the issues of those impacted by the President Trump’s Executive Order issued in the name of “Protecting the Nation From Foreign Terrorist Entry Into the United States.”

President Trump signed the executive order last Friday evening directing the Homeland Security Department to keep certain travelers from entering the United States for 120 days and immigrants from seven nations out for three months.

The AMLA-USA advisory aims to alert travelers to know their rights, and advises to seek legal counsel before undertaking traveling plans to and from location outside of the United States.

The following are the key points of the advisory issued by AMLA-USA:

  • This order applies to anyone who is NOT a US CITIZEN or PERMANENT RESIDENT (green card holders). This order applies to VISA holders.
  • Canadian citizens should be able to travel to the US freely. If you have any trouble at the border, please call the Canadian Embassy at 613-996-8885.
  • It is strongly recommended that anyone other than a citizen or permanent resident not travel outside of the country for the next 120 days, irrespective of destination.
  • While Pakistan or India are not currently on the “countries of concern” or “banned” list, the executive order does mention Syria by name and references countries under Section 217(a)(12) of the Immigration and Nationality Act, including Iraq, Iran, Yemen, Libya, Sudan and Somalia. Notably, ANY country can be added at ANY time.
  • If you know someone who is entering the U.S. and is not a citizen in the next 120 days, have an attorney present at the airport when they arrive. Advise them before they start their travel back to the U.S. to ask for their attorney if they are detained at the airport. They should say: “My attorney is present at the airport; I have a legal right to speak to my attorney.”
  • Anyone travelling to the U.S. should NOT sign a I-407 form. If prompted to, please ask for your attorney. Signing this form will voluntarily strip you of your permanent resident status (Green Card).
  • Please do not change plans according to any media sources. Consult with an attorney before making any decisions.

Members of AMLA-USA have been actively providing guidance through their social media accounts.  You may follow the organization via their Twitter account @AMLAUSA.

Does depression boost the risk of cancer death?

People who are frequently depressed or anxious may run a higher risk of dying from certain types of cancer, researchers said.

Medical records of more than 160,000 adults in England and Wales showed that those describing themselves as psychologically distressed were more likely to succumb to cancer, especially of the colon, prostate and pancreas.

Leukaemia and cancer of the oesophagus, or food pipe, were also more elevated among this group, they wrote in the BMJ medical journal.

The researchers were cautious in their conclusions, pointing out that a statistical link does not necessarily signify a cause-and-effect relationship between mood and cancer. But the findings add to growing evidence that mental and physical health do not function on separate planes, and that one can influence the other, they said.

Earlier research, for example, showed that chronic depression and anxiety may help trigger heart disease and stroke. But attempts to discern similar links between states of mind and cancer have yielded mixed results.

To find out more, a quartet of researchers led by David Batty of University College London examined raw data from 16 long-term studies, covering 163,363 people aged 16 and over.

Participants were monitored for an average of nearly a decade. More than 4,300 died of cancer. The team sifted through raw data on psychological distress levels, lifestyle habits and cancer incidence.

They searched in particular for evidence of links between stress and cancers related to hormonal changes or lifestyle.

Depression is known to disrupt hormonal balance to the extent of boosting natural cortisone concentrations and inhibiting DNA repair mechanisms, both of which weaken cancer defences.

It is also well established that people who are down in the dumps are more likely to smoke, drink and become obese – all associated with a higher cancer risk.

The team found that regardless of one’s lifestyle, people who described themselves as depressed were nearly twice as likely to dies of colon cancer, and more than twice of likely to succumb to pancreas or oesophagal cancer. The rate for leukaemia was even higher.

Government can not escape after confessional statement of Dar: Imran

Government can not escape after confessional statement of Dar: Imran

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan on Monday said that real money trail was the one that Finance Minister Muhammad Ishaq Dar had admitted in his confessional statement.

Talking to media persons, he once again lashed out at the government, saying the government can not escape this time and the people will chase him no matter wherever it goes.

He questioned how did the Sharifs managed such a huge sum of money for Gulf Steel Mills, saying the trail of money for such a huge investment must be traced.

The PTI chairman said that Dar’s statement in which he spilled the beans against Nawaz Sharif has all the money trail.

“I just want to ask what kind of a country is this where a person who had openly confessed in writing of money laundering for his immediate boss [Nawaz Sharif] is the finance minister,” he wondered.

He demanded immediate resignation of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, saying after the Panama Leaks scandal, he has no right to stay on and look after the affairs of the country as its chief executive.

To a question, he said that his party would accept any decision of the apex court, adding the Panamagate case would define the future of the country and the whole nation has fixated its eyes on the apex court as it is defining moment.

About his own flat in London, Khan said that he never denied owning his flat and he had not earned money for that from unfair means.

Later presiding over a meeting of the party at his Bani Gala residence, he took stock of the situation. The meeting which was attended by the senior leadership of the party noted that Nawaz Sharif has completely failed to establish the money trail for his wealth abroad.

“The confessional statement by Dar is a fact which now he’s trying to distort, but they can not befool the nation any longer. The letters after letters by the Qatari prince are nothing but exercise in futility,” noted Imran.

The meeting noted that after the confessional statement by Ishaq Dar, the case of the Sharifs has lost its worth, adding no matter how many letters they bring, they could not change what Dar had stated in his affidavit.

The meeting was concluded on a happy note that within few days the apex court will give its verdict that will determine the future of the country as well as those who plundered the national wealth through money laundering and built empires for their children abroad.

Pakistani Minister voices his support for Blasphemy Laws

Pakistani Finance Minister Ishaq Dar has voiced his support for the country’s controversial Blasphemy laws. He made the comments while speaking at the ‘KhatmeNabuwat’ conference in Golra Sharif on Saturday.

Speaking at the conference, Dar said:

There would be no change in the blasphemy laws, as Pakistan came into being in the name of Allah and Prophet Muhammad.Pakistan was the only country whose foundation was laid on Islam and Kalma Tayyaba.

There would be also no change in KhamteNabuwat laws, We are ready to sacrifice thousands of lives for the protection of these laws and we will make Pakistan a sanctuary of Islam.

He further said:

Pakistan is an atomic power for a reason, and the reason is we have to lead the Islamic world, we have to stop Christians and Jews from speaking against Islam. So there is no way we can compromise on Blasphemy Laws.

The minister also thanked the custodians of the Golra shrine for organizing the conference. The annual conference is directed against the minority Ahmadi Muslims, The Ahmadis are considered heretics by mainstream Muslims and were declared “non-Muslim” under the Pakistani laws in 1974. Since then they have been the victims of Pakistan’s blasphemy laws.

The laws are also often used against the country’s Christian minority to settle personal scores or to take over property. Critics say police and courts are under pressure from religious groups and lawyers who are dedicated to protecting the blasphemy laws through harsh punishments.

In 2011, the then Punjab Governor Salman Taseer was gunned down by his own police security guard after he demanded that the country’s controversial blasphemy laws be reformed.
