Israel: Ahmadiyyas open doors amid fears wildfires will singe Jewish-Arab ties in Haifa

Two days after a wave of wildfires spread throughout the mixed Arab-Jewish city of Haifa and forced tens of thousands to flee, residents returned to pick through the blackened debris of their homes while pondering what had started it all.

Now, as Haifa residents take stock of the damage, many express concern that the fires and the accusations of politically motivated arson also might tear at the threads of Jewish-Arab coexistence in the city.

In the Haifa Arab neighborhood of Kbabir, located just few minutes’ drive from the fires and home to a community of Ahmadiyya Muslims, Sheikh Muhammad Sharif Odeh opened up the local auditorium center to host 150 soldiers from Israel’s Home Front Command while the fires raged.

“We have to put out the physical fires and we also have to put out the fire of hate,’’ Odeh said. “Allah is the one sovereign and we have to look after everyone. The ethnic mosaic [in Haifa] is strong, and politicians can’t change the relations here.’’

The blazes were the most widespread in recent memory. In 2010, some 42 people were killed in a blaze in the Carmel Forest outside of Haifa, but the wildfires were limited to one area.

KARACHI: A member of Ahmadi community was shot dead in suspected sectarian attack in Gulzar-i-Hijri area on Sunday evening, according to Sachal police and the community official.

They added that as Shaikh Sajid Mehmood, 55, came out from his home in Kaneez Fatima Society off Superhighway, four suspects riding on two motorcycles opened fire on him and fled.

He sustained critical bullet injuries and was transported to JPMC where doctors declared him as dead on arrival, said Dr. Seemin Jamali, executive director of the hospital. He had sustained multiple bullet wounds.

Sachal police officer said that the victim belonged to Ahmadi community.

“This was third such targeting killings in the same vicinity during last several months,” said a spokesperson of Jamaat Ahmadiya.

Previously, Khaleeq and Daud were gunned down in Gulzar-e-Hijri.

The spokesperson told Dawn that the victim was an auto parts dealer.

Pakistan: Three separate shootings target Ahmadi man, two police officers in near-identical manner

All three incidents took place in quick succession and in close proximity of each other. A source told The Express Tribune that the same team of target killers might have been involved in the three incidents.

KARACHI: A senior police officer and a member of the Ahmadiyya community were killed and traffic police officer escaped gun attack in separate but near-identical drive-by shootings in the metropolis on Sunday night. All three incidents took place in quick succession and in close proximity of each other.

In the first report, gunmen riding a motorbike sprayed bullets on a police vehicle near Laal Flat on Rashid Minhas Road, killing DSP Faiz Ali Shigri and injuring Head Constable Rasheed, according to Gulshan SP Dr Fahd.

Similarly, gunmen riding motorcycles opened fire on DSP of traffic police, Zafar Hussain, while he was sitting on his vehicle. Attackers fled after DSP Hussain retaliated.

Elsewhere in the city, a man belonging to the Ahmadiyya community was gunned outside his house in Kaneez Fatima Society where a neighbour said that four gunmen riding on motorcycles targeted Sheikh Sajid Mehboob, 55, outside his house in a gated society.

A source told The Express Tribune that the same team of target killers might have been involved in the three incidents.

India: Qadian Derwaish Sheikh Abdul Qadeer passed away

The 313 devotees who settled in Qadian to serve and protect the birthplace of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, came to be known as Derwaishan-e-Qadian. 

Mr. Sheikh Abdul Qadeer Derwaish Qadian passed away here in Qadian. He was about 88 years old.

Sheiks Abdul Qadeer was among the 313 ‘Derwaishan-e-Qadian’ who came to Qadian at the call of the former spiritual head of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama’at, His Holiness, Hazrat Mirza Bashir Ud Din Mehmood Ahmad, for the protections of the holy sites of Qadian at the time of the Indo-Pak partition.

The 313 devotees who settled in Qadian to serve and protect the birthplace of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, came to be known as Derwaishan-e-Qadian.

Sheikh Abdul Qadeer dedicated his whole life for the service of Islam-Ahmadiyyat. A very simple person, Sheikh Abdul Qadeer, served in the various departments of Sadr Anjuman Ahmadiyya Qadian.

Sheikh Abdul Qadeer is survived by his widower, three daughters and one son. His one daughter is married in Pakistan and two daughters are living in Canada. His son, Nasir Waheed, also serves the Ahmadiyya community in Qadian.
