Ahmed Mujtaba signs for Asia’s biggest MMA promotion

Ahmed Mujtaba signs for Asia’s biggest MMA promotion

KARACHI:

ONE Championship, Asia’s biggest Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) promotion, announced on Thursday that it has snapped up Pakistan’s highly rated fighter Ahmed “The Wolverine” Mujtaba.

Mujtaba, who has so far won all five of his professional bouts and is the reigning WSOFGC and UnderGround Battle featherweight champion, will face Benedict Ang on November 11 at Singapore Indoor Stadium, Kallang, Singapore as part of a ONE Championship: Defending Honour fight card.

Pakistan’s Uloomi Karim dominates India’s Yadwinder Singh

“It’s an honor to fight for ONE Championship. I’d like to thank the company’s CEO Victor Cui and VP of Operations Matt Hume for the opportunity,” Mujtaba told The Express Tribune. “And after winning titles at UnderGround Battle and World Series of Fighting Global Championship, I’d like to bring more glory to Pakistan.”

MMA star Bashir Ahmad also expressed his delight at Mujtaba signing for ONE FC, saying: “This is great news that after me and Waqar Umar, Ahmed Mujtaba has also reached this level. This is how our sport will grow.”

Karim dedicates victory over Singh to Kashmir

Like Mujtaba, his upcoming opponent Ang is also undefeated and has come out triumphant in all three of his bouts. But the fighting styles of the two opponents are quite different, with Mujtaba considered more of a submission expert and Ang a knockout artist.

In his young pro career, the 23-year-old Mujtaba has rarely been tested, but in Ang he is up against a fighter who already has a victory over a Pakistani fighter.

Mind you, Ang earned a B unanimous decision by win over Synergy’s Waqar Umar last year, and avenging his country man will definitely be Mujtaba’s priority when he squares up to the Singaporean  next month.

Pakistan: Final appeal set for Christian woman facing execution for blasphemy

A Christian woman facing execution for blasphemy in Pakistan has been granted her final chance to appeal next week, after the country’s supreme court set a date for Asia Bibi’s last hearing.

In a case that has gained international infamy, the mother-of-five from rural Punjab was convicted in 2010 for defaming the Prophet Mohammad during an argument with a group of Muslim women over a bowl of water. She has been on death row ever since.

Appeals at lower courts have all failed, before the country’s top court temporarily suspended her execution in July 2015.

If Pakistan’s supreme court does not overturn her sentence following arguments heard in Islamabad next Thursday, Mrs Bibi will become the first person to ever be hanged under Pakistan’s controversial blasphemy laws.

At least 20 people charged with blasphemy in Pakistan have been murdered, some by their own prison guards, and many more have gone into hiding.

Mrs Bibi’s plight has divided Pakistan, pitting its hardline clerics and their supporters against liberal reformers, and exposing deep fractures in the highly conservative Muslim state.

A farm worker, she was accused of insulting the prophet in June 2009 after an argument broke out over a bowl of water she had been sent to fetch from the well in Ittan Wali village.

3-day Annual Convention begins later today in Mississauga

The World Head of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, the Fifth Khalifa (Caliph), His Holiness, Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad, on October 6, 2016, addressed the thousands of volunteer workers tasked with organising the 40th Annual Convention (Jalsa Salana) of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community in Canada.

During his address at the Baitul Islam Mosque in Peace Village, His Holiness reminded the 5,100 volunteers that it was their duty to display the highest moral standards and etiquettes.

Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad said:

“Every Ahmadi Muslim volunteer must always remember that he or she must display the very best etiquettes at all times and remain calm, considerate and kind throughout.”

His Holiness said that each worker should remember that his or her service was offered voluntarily and ought to be conducted with humility and a spirit of selflessness.

Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad said:

“Keep in mind the fact that no one has forced any of you to offer your services for duty. Rather you have all voluntarily chosen to put yourself forward with the intention of serving the guests of the Promised Messiah (as) and attaining the blessings of God Almighty. Thus, you should conduct yourselves in the best manner at all times and try to keep a smile on your face no matter what.”

Concluding, His Holiness said:

“Most importantly, remember that the success of the Jalsa Salana is based upon prayer and so every person must continually pray for its success. May Allah bless the Jalsa Salana Canada in all respects and enable all of the volunteers to fulfill their duties in the very best fashion.”

His Holiness spoke individually to the leaders of a number of Jalsa departments and offered guidance on various matters. Thereafter, His Holiness led the Maghreb and Isha prayers.

Earlier, His Holiness also inspected the langhar khana (kitchen) where meals for over 20,000 guests will be prepared throughout the event.

The 3-day Jalsa Salana begins later today at the International Centre in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada.

His Holiness, who has travelled from London will address each day of the Convention and will also meet with various dignitaries and guests. @AhmadiyyatIslam
