Asia Cup; Pakistan will take on UAE today

Asia Cup; Pakistan will take on UAE today

Asia Cup; After facing a disappointed win against arch rival India Pakistan will take on the relitivly weak team of UAE today.  Confident Pakistan players are all set to face United Arab Emirates (UAE) in sixth match of current Asia Cup at Shere Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur today.
The green shirts will step onto the pitch with passion to seal their first victory in the tournament. The match will start at 6:30 PST.

Talking about the key batsmen in both teams, Pakistan’s Mohammad Hafeez has played 72 T20 matches so far and smashed 1518 runs while Rohan Mustafa in UAE has hit 228 runs in 14 T20s until now.

Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi can depress the competitor whereas UAE captain Amjad Javed can also give befitting response.

On bowling side, Pakistan’s energetic Mohammad Amir is ready to stun the Aaqib Javed’s team but the UAE have all the hopes with experienced Mohammad Naveed who has sent 19 players to pavilion in 12 T20 only.

Earlier, Pakistan’s batsmen struggled against Indian pacers and spinners and failed to put on partnerships as most of the batsmen fell due to lose shots.

As usual, it was the bowling that was the bright spot during their loss to India. Mohammad Amir and Mohammad Sami bowled beautifully and were ably supported by Irfan and Wahab Riaz.

UAE on the other hand had lost both their games in the Asia Cup, and will need a win here if they are to remain in the competition.

LOS ANGELES: Pakistani filmmaker Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy has won his second successive Osker award for her short documentary film “A Girl in the River: The Price of Forgiveness”, a film about a Pakistan woman who survived an honour-killing.

This is the second time that the 37-year-old Pakistani filmmaker has won an Oscar award. She before received the award in the same category in 2012 for her documentary “Saving Face”.

“This is what happens when determined women get together,” Sharmeen said in her acceptance speech after receiving the award, thanking “all the brave men out there, and my husband, who push women to go to school and work.”

The documentary tells the real-life story of an 18-year-old Pakistani girl who survives a brutal by her own family bent on killing her for their ‘honour’ after she elopes with a man she falls in love with.

“This week the Pakistani prime minister has said that he will change the law on honour killing after watching this film. That is the power of film,” she said. “I think that that’s a win in itself because it’s such a difficult topic and people shy away from it, normally.”

Meanwhile there are widespread protests are expected after the execution, from the religious parties and public. Qadri, commando of police’s Elite Force, was sentenced to death for assassinating the provincial governor on January 4, 2011, in Islamabad’s Kohsar Market. In October 2015, the Supreme Court of Pakistan maintained the conviction of Qadri by Anti-Terrorism Court, overturning Islamabad High Court’s March 9 verdict, which had dismissed Qadri’s appeal against his death sentence under the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) but accepted his plea to void Section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act’s (ATA).

Strict security measures were taken within the jail premises and a heavy contingent of law enforcement agencies personnel were deployed to avoid any untoward incident. All routes leading to the Adiala Jail were sealed. The security personnel were also deployed across major cities to deal with reaction. Qadri’s body was handed over to his family members and was moved from the jail under security cover. Qadri’s last meeting with his family was arranged late on Sunday night.
